SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to exchange protected data between a client and a hosting server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy clients prefer SSH due to the better level of security. The connection is made and the commands are sent using a command line. The available options depend on the type of hosting service - on a shared server, for instance, files can be transferred or deleted, databases can be imported and exported, and archives may be set up or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your choices are considerably more - the web server and the database server can be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software can be set up and much more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, because full root access is needed and all the other customers on that server will be affected. While SSH is employed primarily with UNIX-like OSs, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.

SSH Telnet in Web Hosting

SSH access is provided with all web hosting that we provide. With some of them, it's featured as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade you can add with just a few mouse clicks from your website hosting CP. You can get SSH access through the section related to it where you will also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password that you will use and, if required, you'll be able to modify it with a couple of mouse clicks from the same spot. All commands that could be used with our shared packages are listed inside a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access function is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you may add it from the hosting CP if necessary - even only for the current month. Either way, you can activate and de-activate the function with only one click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you will discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you may input the password that you would like to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you may also change it as frequently as you need. A full list of the commands that can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and several instances. An extra feature after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server plans come with SSH access as standard, so you will not need to include any upgrades or activate anything - the second the server is set up and you receive its login info, you shall be able to connect through its main IP address and the login credentials which you've chosen through the signup process. Since the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions with regards to the commands that you could run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage pretty much everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any applications which you install in a fast and safe way.
